My Most Anticipated Video Game Releases of 2016
by Connor Brown

Good afternoon, my friends an amigos! Today, since we have a long and beautiful summer to look forward to, I thought I could do something a bit different. It's not really a Top 10 list, but it is a list of some of my most anticipated video-games releases of 2016. Since there have been games released recently both good and bad, I thought I could talk about games that have yet to be released yet, but look potentially promising given what kind of games they are. Now for this list of anticipated games, I'm setting some ground rules that should be noted:

  • Games have been unreleased yet
  • Games that are on current game consoles(ex: Wii U, PS4)
  • Games that are being released only for 2016
And now, here are my Most Anticipated Video-Game Releases of 2016!

Shantae- Half-Genie Hero

Coming form a recent games series that is the forth entry in a series of games that have been praised for it's 2.5D gameplay and catchy-game music. And, seeing as how it's a crowd-funded game instead of a non-profit organization, it looks to be another great game for gamers who are fans of 2D platformers and looks to be something that anyone can pick up and play and they can get used to the game's challenging difficulty. Also, considering, it's be released on EVERY single console that's out nowadays(even more older ones the the PS3 and Xbox 260), it hopefully shouldn't be to hard to find it at game-retailers near us.

In case you didn't know, I LOVE the science-fiction genre, and even there is anything I love just as, if not more in the sci-fi genre, it's robots. Robotic beings that are mechanical and emotionless, yet they can show that they are somewhat human, despite their metal exterior. And considering that this game is inspired by the Mega-Man game series and another crowd-funded game, it shouldn't be to hard for this to become another great 2D platform favorite among the gaming community. The game itself was originally scheduled to be released on February 9, 2016, but it was delayed to to glitches/bugs in the game, so the final release date is for June 2016, so it hopefully will be worth it by then.

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

NOW we are getting to some of the most popular series of games for all ages(well, at least for older audiences with an E 10+ rating) that are based on some the most popular film franchises of all time. And considering this is getting released the same year as the equally-anticipated Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, saying a lot. What I'm really excited for this game is that it'll be taking place during events after after Return of the Jedi and before The Force Awakens respectively. Another thing that I like is all the actors and actresses that are from the Force Awakens will be reprising their roles for this game. It'l also introduce  an all-new building system that'll allow players to either build or destroy in the brick-building sections of the game, and another new game-element included will be "Blaster-Battles", in which players can hide and cover between shooting sections of the gun-fighting parts of the game.
With returning cast-members, all-new game-elements, and humor that only LEGO could deliver, this looks to be another solid entry for LEGO video-games to come.

Oh, boy. This looks to be a VERY anticipated release of this year. Mostly because it's being made by the same creators of the acclaimed Shadow of the Colossus and Ico games; it was first announced in 2009, but sadly suffered many delays and other complications; it was then ported over the the PS4 in 2012, and is FINALLY  getting a game release this year.

Darn it, did I wanna put this on the list, but it's been delayed for a 2017 release, and I was so looking forward to it, as it was going to be release for this year! But since the creators pushed it back so it could be be polished for it's final-state, I can't really blame them for that, and consider it's being made by the same team who made Banjo-Kazooie, I shouldn't feel too bummed out.

Skylanders:Imaginators

I
By the way...Mom loves Connor very much!!!(Thank-you, Mom-Bomb!)

I personally never was I fan of the Skylanders series, considering that it stared the beloved Spyro the Drago, who was now a toy and not a character, it thankfully turned out for the better. And since this is the 6th game in the series that officially has it's own merchandise(plush-toys, clothing, towels, fruit-snacks, Happy Meal toys, novels, etc.), it should hopefully be another well-received entry, and consider I'm more into Disney Infinity that's been officially canceled, this game should hopefully save the toys-to-life series of video games.

And now for one DISHONORABLE mention:
Sonic-Boom:Fire and Ice

Coming after the disastrous sales and reception of Sonic Boom: The Rise of Lyric, I am NOT looking forward for this game to come out. If you've seen the trailer, you'll know what I mean. And considering that was a huge Sonic fan during my elementary-school years, this looks to be an absolute disgrace to the once beloved blue hedgehog that was once SEGA's best selling games series of all time.

And my most anticipated video-game release of 2016 is....

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
  Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 logo.png
Seeing as how I'm a HUGE Disney fan, I'm extremely and cautiously optimistic about this being the first game in the series to be released for the PlayStation 4, and it'll include Dream Drop Distance exclusively from the Nintendo 3DS and 2 new additions to the game's compilation, being Kingdom Hearts x Backcover and the staring feature, Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep- A Fragmentary Passage, which will be a short episode set after Dream Drop Distance, and seeing as how I have yet to beat a single game in the series, I better complete them in time in order for this to come in order for the highly anticipated 3-entry in the series, Kingdom Hearts 3. I also like how the look of the game will be in HD presentation and will feel as if Kingdom Hearts 3 will be played, which I hope gets more attention, and the games itself is to be released in December of this year, but let's not hope it's rushed for Christmas-time.

That's all for today, but hope to write to you all about more releases of this year.

Your friend, Connor!
